We trade as “Ethical Weigh Co-Op”, but formally, as a legal entity, we are “Ethical Weigh Community Benefit Society”.
We are a community owned enterprise, governed by our Rules and any profits we make are re-invested in the Co-Op and in our wider community.
Founded 2020
Ethical Weigh was a family business founded in February 2020 originally run by Sinead and Paul Burley and is based in Eglinton. In January 2023, the shop was converted into a “Mutual Benefit Society”, a form of co-operative with the community at it’s heart , where any profits made by the shop is re-invested in the co-op and in our community
Ethical Weigh Co-op is a refill shop for household, personal care products, and dried goods. The refill model facilitates the re-use of packaging, minimising single-use plastic,. it reduces food waste by allowing customers to purchase weighted quantities rather than prepackaged amounts.
What Ethical Weigh started from:
We aim to provide locally-sourced products, where possible, to help reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the local economy
We use our own ingredients and on-site kitchen to provide nutritious and healthy take-home vegetarian and vegan foods and freshly baked goods such as bread and scones.
The refill model reduces packaging and marketing costs so decreasing price, whilst allowing customers to determine the quantity they buy.
We have a cafe, kitchen, and studio space for hosting classes and events such as yoga and crafting. With this combination, we aim to create a social space to facilitate the widespread adoption of a healthier lifestyle with a lower carbon footprint.
Our Suppliers.
We source our products and ingredients from high quality, local suppliers. Many are based less than an hour away from our shop in Eglinton. Locally roasted coffee, microgreens grown in the Sperrins and pottery from Donegal are all on offer, alongside much more.
